I heard this last night and it reminded me of the fact that Jim Carroll died a couple weeks ago, sadly joining the ranks of the people in this song. This amazingly energetic, kick-ass song is a uplifting tribute to people who died, but not before they left an impression on Carroll himself.
I actually like this song by Portland band Hockey better, but they’ve joined the ranks of music industry trouble makers and disabled that video for embedding. But this one’s pretty good, too:
this weekend’s just a song away – make it a good one.
This one is the fault of one of my mins. She planted it in my head yesteraday and I’ve (sadly) not been able to shake it. Posting it as song of the week will hopefully get it out of my skull.
This video is great because it was shot back in the days when a leaf blower and a bunch of leaves was all you needed to make a “bitchin” video. Plus, everybody either looked like Tears for Fears or Rick Astley or some bastard child of theirs.
Not sure why this one is the one this week. Could be the poor spelling. Could be the oh-so-clever use of the rhyming oxymoron in the band name. Could be the head banging head bangerness of it. I’m just not really sure. Anyhow…
“Everybody needs a little time away,” I heard her say, “from each other. Even lovers need a holiday. Far away from each other.” She said a bunch of other stuff, too, but I didn’t really hear it because I was trying to not let the door hit my ass on the way out.
have a great labor day weekend. burn it up. don’t apologize. it’s hard.
Jumping into your speakers with a punchy, melodic, carefree and pop-laden bunch of business, this one is by a hot funky Norwegian chick named Ida Maria. Really fun stuff, makes you want to jump around and sort of bump into people on a crowded dance floor in a smoky club in NYC. Or not. I don’t know.
It’s another one of those stoopid “embed disabled by request” things, so click on thru to YouTube to watch it. I’d surf around and find an embeddable version, but I’m on to other things by now. If you happen to be in Maine this weekend, Ida Maria will be playing at the first annual KahBang Indie Music and Art Festival in Bangor, Maine on August 15, 2009. When you see her, you can ask her why she doesn’t want me to embed her video. You can ask her in Swedish, which is pretty close to Norwegian… “Varför, Ida Maria… VARFföR?…”
life is short – sometimes you just gotta do whatcha gotta do. oh, and it’s cool to know nothing… that way you’ll never miss a beat.
sadly, these guys are good but they’re missing a beat themselves by not allowing this video to be embedded… idiots. so click on the vid below to be taken to you tube where you can trip out on their trippiness.
aware it's not friday, but I don't think my weeks have days anymore. here's a silence-breaking SMA&CMF song of the week: http://is.gd/cwqmcfollow my ass1 year ago
